Feijoas

Availability

March - June

Varieties

We supply several different varieties of feijoa throughout the season depending on what's available at the time:

  • Kakariki: Early season, extra large fruit that is very sweet.
  • Unique: Mid season, medium sized fruit that is mildly sweet.
  • Wiki Tu: Mid-season, extra large, sweet and fleshy fruit.
  • Opal Star: Mid- to late-season, medium sized fruit with smooth skin and rich flavour.

Eating

Feijoas are great to eat fresh - scoop out the flesh and pop it in your mouth, or if you're feeling brave just eat it skin and all! They make for a great smoothie base, or a perfect filling for a sweet dessert such as feijoa crumble or a feijoa upside-down cake. You can also get creative with feijoa jams or other preserving options!

Nutrition

Feijoas are high in vitamin C, B, E & K, as well as containing folic acid, potassium and magnesium. The high fibre content will help keep you fuller for longer.

Storage

All of our feijoas are touch picked from the tree or collected from nets, meaning they will have a longer shelf life than those that fall to the ground. That said, feijoas do ripen quickly if left out at room temperature. They are ready to eat once slightly soft to the touch. You can store your feijoas in the fridge to keep them fresh an extra week or two, and you can freeze them with or without the skin.
